Barbecue Seasoning

When someone mentions barbecue, does your mind go to a sticky sauce? While barbecue sauces are very popular and quite delicious, there is a whole world of dry barbecue spice mixtures out there that you should get to know. A quick Google of barbecue spices will bring you many, many options from Memphis style to Carolina BBQ, sweet blends, spicy blends and smokey blends. My favorite barbecue seasoning blend combines a little of everything. It is a little sweet, a little smokey and has just a hint of heat, so everyone can enjoy it.

If you have been searching for a well balanced dry barbecue spice mixture, then try this one out!

Let’s get it started…

Gather 1 tablespoon of chili powder, 1 tablespoon of paprika (sweet or smoked), 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of ground cumin, 1 tablespoon of garlic powder, 2 teaspoons of onion powder, 1 teaspoons of chipotle seasoning, 1 teaspoon of ground ginger, 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper, 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper and an optional 1/4 teaspoon of ground turmeric and 1/4 teaspoon of ground coriander. I love what the turmeric and coriander adds to this blend, but if you aren’t a huge fan of one or both, they are totally optional.

Combine all of the spices in an airtight container and add a pinch or two of sea salt, if you prefer things a little salty. You can use this barbecue spice blend on pretty much everything! I use it on grilled chicken, steaks, burgers, ribs, wings, pulled pork, shrimp… you get the idea…

Make this spice blend, add to everything and thank me later…
