Mummy Cookies

If you happen to need some adorable mummy cookies for the autumn holiday festivities, this quick decorating tutorial will work on any flat cookie and can be completed in just a few minutes.

Let’s get started…

Step one is gather your ingredients. You will need some cookies (homemade or store bought), a little bit of frosting, some candy eye balls and 1 1/2 cups of confectioners sugar with a few teaspoons of milk to make the mummies drizzle.

Step two is to whip up a batch of cookies. You’ll want cookies that are smooth on top, so they look good when they are drizzled. Today, I am using chocolate alfajores, but any shortbread cookies, sugar cookies and butter cookies will work great!

Once the cookies are cooled, use a little dab of frosting to apply two candy eye balls. Don’t be afraid to be creative with the eye ball placement. The more quirky they are, the better…

Place all the cookies onto a cooling rack with some paper towels or a few sheets of parchment paper underneath to catch the excess drizzle. This makes for easy clean up and thats always a good thing…

Step three is to make some drizzle by whisking a few teaspoons of milk into 1 1/2 cups of confectioners sugar. Only add enough to form a drizzle-able consistency. If you add too much and the texture is too loose, simply add more confectioners sugar and whisk to combine.

Now you can use your whisk or a fork to grab some of the drizzle and drag it over the cookies, but using a piping bag with a small round tip or a gallon zip lock bag with a tiny bit of the corner cut off will give your cookies more uniform drizzle marks.

Step four is the drizzling. You can drizzle these cookies however you want! You are just trying to make the cookies look like little mummies. I like drizzling a little bit over top of the eyes for little hats and then some below for their little mummy jackets.

If you want thicker mummy wraps, do a little bit at first and let the first layer set before adding another layer. This way the layers won’t all combine into one solid line of drizzle.

Aren’t they adorable? Super festive, cute and who doesn’t love candy eye balls?

These little mummy cookies are so easy and just perfect for the holiday festivities!
