This crispy honey butter chicken is fabulous. This super simple one step batter creates juicy chicken with a crispy crust that is tossed in a caramelized honey butter sauce that is salty, sweet and sticky. This recipe comes together quick and everyone will love the comforting flavors of this crispy honey butter chicken.

This chicken is perfect to pair with rice, noodles, sautéed vegetables or a salad, so the next time you need a simple, delicious meal that comes together quick and tastes amazing, then make this crispy honey butter chicken.

Let’s get started…

Start by cutting 2 pounds of boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs into 1 inch pieces.

In a large bowl, combine 1/2 cup of all purpose flour, 2/3 cup of cornstarch, 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 3/4 cup of cold water. Your batter should be thick, but easy to whisk, similar to a pancake batter.

Transfer your chicken pieces into the batter and use a spatula to mix until all of the chicken is coated in batter.

Place a large skillet over medium to medium high heat and add about two inches of canola or vegetable oil into the skillet and let it warm up. The oil is ready when a few drops of batter sizzles as soon as it is dropped in.

Use a fork to transfer some of the coated chicken into the hot oil. I usually fry about twenty pieces at a time, so it will take three batches to fry all of the chicken. The chicken is done when the exterior is crisp and golden brown and the interior is no longer pink with an internal temperature of 165 degrees. When you think your chicken is cooked through, take a piece out and cut it in half. If it is cooked through, use a fork or slotted spoon to transfer the chicken onto a paper towel lined plates and then repeat the process with the remaining chicken.

Once the chicken is fried, clean out your skillet and return it to medium heat. Combine 4 tablespoons of butter, 1/4 cup honey, 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar and 2 tablespoons of soy sauce in the skillet and bring the mixture to a simmer.

Allow the sauce to gently simmer, while you stir for 2-3 minutes. Reduce the heat if the sauce begins to boil rapidly. Once the sauce has come together, remove the skillet from the heat and add the crispy fried chicken directly into the skillet.

Toss the chicken in the sauce until all of the pieces are generously coated in that sweet, sticky honey butter sauce and then get ready to enjoy some truly fabulous chicken…

I have always been a fan of crunchy chicken in a sticky sauce, but there is something special about how simple this honey butter chicken is to whip up and how salty and sweet this sauce is that takes it right to the top of my list of go-to lunches and easy weeknight dinners.

I love pairing this crispy honey butter chicken with some fluffy white rice, but it also works really good over a bed of crisp greens or some buttery noodles or even roasted vegetables.

The bottom line is that whatever you pair this chicken with, you are going to love the crispy breading and that salty, sweet and sticky sauce… it so, so good…
