Sparkling Blackberry Lime Mocktail

One of the many things that I love about the summertime is mixing up sweet, fruity, refreshing drinks to enjoy on a hot afternoon and this sparkling blackberry lime mocktail is just perfect for this very occasion.

The combination of fresh blackberry simple syrup, some lime juice and sparkling water is one of my all time favorite drinks and it can easily be made a full fledged cocktail with a splash of tequila, vodka or sake.

Let’s get started…

Begin by making your blackberry simple syrup. This takes just a few minutes and it stores very well in the refrigerator, so I love keeping some on hand for any beverage emergencies that may arise.

Combine 1 cup of fresh blackberries with 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan and place it over medium high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook until the sugar is fully dissolved.

Transfer the saucepan off of the heat and mash the blackberries. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes and then run the mixture through a fine mesh strainer.

Once the simple syrup cools a bit, add 2 ounces of it along with 1 ounce (or 2 tablespoons) of fresh lime juice and 3 whole blackberries into the bottom of your glass. Use a muddler or the handle of a wooden spoon to smash the blackberries.

Add some crushed ice and 3 ounces of sparkling water and stir everything together.

Garnish your drink with a lime wedge and a big, juicy blackberry and sip in the sweet, tart, refreshing flavors of this fabulous sparkling blackberry lime mocktail.
