Blackberry Mint Saké Smash

Saké is a brewed alcoholic Japanese beverage made from fermented rice. It has a slightly sweet, smooth taste profile that pairs well with a wide variety of flavors. Although not as commonly used in mixed drinks as vodka, gin or tequila, saké works beautifully in many cocktails and todays blackberry mint saké smash is definitely proof of this.

Let’s get started…

You will need some blackberry simple syrup, fresh blackberries, fresh mint, sparkling water and saké to make this beautiful cocktail.

Today, I am using Shirakabegura’s sparkling mio saké. This rich, sweet saké is s brewed in Hyogo Prefecture in the Kinki region of Japan. My friends at Tippsy Saké sent me this delicious beverage and I am so excited for you to try this fabulous drink.

In the bottom of a glass, combine 1 1/2 ounces of blackberry simple syrup with 3 large fresh blackberries and a few mint leaves. Lightly muddle the berries and mint and then add 2 ounces of saké and 2 ounces of sparkling water.

Add some crushed ice into your serving glass and pour the cocktail over the crushed ice. Give the drink a stir and garnish the glass with fresh blackberries and mint leaves.

This blackberry mint saké smash is simply fabulous, especially when made with this sparkling saké. It is perfectly sweet, a little tart and really smooth. The mint adds a little hint of freshness and a wonderful aroma and the blackberry druplets (the individual little juicy bumps covering the berries) create little pops of tartness that I adore.

The next time you are searching for a special cocktail to serve at your next dinner party, brunch or backyard barbecue, give this blackberry mint saké smash a try!

You are going to love it!
