Cilantro Lime Slaw

One of my all time favorite taco toppings is a good slaw and this slaw is almost always my go to choice. With the classic combination of fresh cilantro and lime, it brings great flavor and a cool, refreshing texture that really rounds a taco out perfectly.

This tasty slaw is not just for tacos though! I love topping a burger with it, adding a big scoop into my salad and love it with a nice pan seared salmon or cod.

It’s delicious, refreshing and adds a lot of flavor to so many dishes.

Let’s get it started…

Begin by gathering a 10 ounce bag of finely shredded cabbage, 1/2 cup of finely chopped fresh cilantro, 1/4 cup of Mexican crema or plain Greek yogurt, 2 tablespoons of fresh lime juice, 2 tablespoons of rice wine vinegar (or your favorite vinegar), 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper and 1/4 teaspoon of celery salt.

I have started buying “angel hair” shredded cabbage and I am loving it. I have always shredded my own cabbage using my handy mandolin, because I am not a fan of having big chunks of cabbage in my salads and slaws, but this super fine angel hair cabbage is just perfect for a slaw that will eventually be adding to a taco, burger, sandwich or rice bowl.

Start by whisking 1/4 cup of Mexican crema or plain Greek yogurt, 2 tablespoons of fresh lime juice, 2 tablespoons of rice wine vinegar (or your favorite vinegar), 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper, 1/4 teaspoon of celery salt with 1/2 cup of finely chopped fresh cilantro in a large bowl.

Add the finely shredded cabbage and toss until it is all lightly coated in the crema dressing and the cilantro is evenly distributed throughout. You can serve it immediately or cover the bowl and chill it until you are ready to serve.

Note: Cabbage will continue to release liquid as it sits, so although it will keep just fine in the refrigerator, the additional liquid released by the cabbage can water down the flavors over time, so I suggest using it immediately or soon after you whip it up.

This slaw is delicious and if you are a fan of the flavors of fresh cilantro and tart limes, then you are going to absolutely love it!

Ingredients

  • 10 ounces of finely shredded cabbage
  • 1/2 cup of fresh cilantro, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup of Mexican crema or plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons of rice wine vinegar (or your favorite vinegar)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon of celery salt

Instructions

  • Combine all of the ingredients in a mixing bowl and toss to combine
  • Serve immediately or cover and chill
