Creamy Avocado Ranch Dressing

Did you know that avocados are berries? Yep! And holy smokes do I love their beautiful, buttery flavors on everything from toast to tortilla chips, in my tacos, on my burgers and even in desserts! They are full of good fats, healthy nutrients and powerful antioxidants. Why wouldn’t you want an avocado, right?

Typically, I would peel and either slice or mash my avocados, but today, we are blending them right into a truly fabulous, super creamy and flavorful dressing.

Does this sound like something you may need in your life? Well, then let’s get started…

This dressing is creamy, herby and very flavorful, but I like to think of this as a bit of a customizable recipe. Avocados are the real start in this dressing, so of course the recipe will begin with a good, ripe avocado, but from there you can have a little fun. If you are not feeling very adventurous or would like to taste this dressing exactly how I make it in my own kitchen, then follow my instructions, but if you have strong feelings about certain citrus fruits or herbs, then go with what makes you the happiest.

Thats how everything in life should be, right?

Begin by gathering the flesh of 1 medium ripe avocado, 1/4 cup of plain Greek yogurt (or sour cream), 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise (or simply add 2 additional tablespoons of Greek yogurt to reduce the calories in this dressing), 1/4 cup of buttermilk (or your favorite milk), 1/3 cup of fresh cilantro (or dill, parsley or chives), 1 tablespoon of fresh lime juice (or lemon or even orange juice), 1 teaspoon of pasted garlic, 1 teaspoon of dried dill, 1/2 teaspoon of dried chives, 1/2 teaspoon of dried parsley, 1/2 teaspoon of onion flakes and a pinch of salt and black pepper.

See how many options you have with this dressing? Of course, if you are only concerned with a delicious dressing, then definitely go with the mayonnaise and full fat buttermilk, but if you are opting to make a little lighter version of this dressing, then use all plain Greek yogurt and low fat milk instead. This is also easily made vegan by using vegan yogurt or mayonnaise and plain almond milk.

I just love the options with this dressing!

Combine all of the ingredients in your blender or food processor and blend until everything is fully combined!

Done.

Well, almost.

You STILL have a few options. So, using 1/4 cup of milk (especially if you went with the full fat buttermilk) will result in a thick, dip-like consistency, which I love with most salads or use as a veggie or wing dip, but if you prefer your dressing thinner with a more drizzle-able consistency, then feel free to add a little more milk or even a splash of water into the mix. I rarely suggest adding water when something more flavorful can be used, but in this case, this dressing is so flavorful that it can handle a little bit of water and still be incredibly delicious.

Your final option is whether you’d like to add a little kick of heat to this dressing. I didn’t add this option into the recipe, because it is not a classic dressing flavorful profile, but adding a few slices of pickled jalapeño or a pinch of crushed red pepper can really make things fantastic if you appreciate a little spice in your life.

Now that your creamy avocado ranch dressing is ready to go, you can begin putting it on anything and everything you want! Its an amazing salad dressing, but it is also great on burgers, turkey wraps, as a vegetable dip, chip dip or wing dip. There are so many ways to use this dressing that you are most likely going to want to keep some on hand at all times (not to sound dramatic about it)… its just really good and I want you to make some, because I know that you are going to love it.
