Cuban Recalentado Bowls

I am not a huge fan of eating the same thing several days in a row. My husband has eaten the same lunch for literally years and actually looks forward to eating it every.. single… day. I cannot do that, but good thing there are some simple ways to transform leftovers into something completely delicious and unrecognizable from the dish you had yesterday.

That is exactly what we are doing today with these recalentado bowls…

Recalentado translates into “reheated food” and it is exactly that… a delicious way to transform leftovers into a flavorful rice bowl.

Today’s bowl is made using leftover vaca frita, but the great thing about recalentado is that any leftover protein can work and here are some of my favorite options…

Reheat your leftover protein and then pair it with some white rice, black beans and fried plantains. Easy peasy, right?

And much like bibimbap, you can garnish these bowls with anything you have on hand. Leftover sautéd peppers and onions… yes! Some pico de gallo from taco Tuesday… absolutely. I would even add a fried egg to it… its your bowl, so the only rules are that you add what you love.

There is not recipe to follow for this one, just some inspiration to transform those boring leftovers into something “new” and delicious.

Cheers to falling back in love with your leftovers!
