Ginger Simple Syrup

If you love the flavors of ginger then you are going to love what this ginger simple syrup will add to your cocktails and mocktails. It adds sweetness, but more importantly it brings the spicy heat of ginger to whatever it is mixed into.

Let’s get started…

If you are unfamiliar with simple syrups they are a liquid sweetener made with equal parts granulated sugar and water that are used to sweeten mixed drinks. They are very easy to flavor with various add ins and the ways that you can use them are endless.

To make this ginger simple syrup, simply combine equal parts granulated sugar, water and peeled and sliced fresh ginger in a small saucepan. I usually add 1 cup of each, but you can definitely make a bigger batch if you need more!

Place your saucepan over medium high heat to bring the mixture to a low boil.

As soon as the mixture begins to boil, scrape the bottom of the saucepan with a wooden spatula or whisk to make sure that all of the sugar has been worked up into the water.

Reduce the heat slightly if the mixture begins to boil too rapidly. You are just looking for a gentle boil at this point. Keep the mixture over the heat for 15 minutes and then turn the heat off and let the mixture sit for 30-60 minutes, depending on how bold you prefer your ginger flavors to be. I find plenty of gingery goodness after only 30 minutes, but I do enjoy how spicy and punchy the flavors become after the full 60 minutes.

After the ginger syrup has rested for 30-60 minutes, carefully strain the simple syrup through a mesh sieve. Transfer the liquid into a glass container and discard the ginger.

This beautifully sweet, golden liquid is just bursting with the warm spicy goodness of fresh ginger. It is the perfect addition to so many drinks and I even add a splash to my hot tea when I have extra on hand.

Once you make your ginger simple syrup, it can be chilled in an airtight container for up to 3 weeks… but mine never lasts that long. Whenever I know I have a batch waiting for me, I always seem to find ways to use it up quick.

Cheers my friends!
