Pink Grapefruit Smoothie

I am a huge fan of grapefruit. I like the white ones, the pink ones, the red ones… all of them. In addition to their sweet and sour flavors, they are quite low in calories, yet have a really high nutritional value. They are packed full of vitamin C, A, zinc, copper and iron, plus they are full of fiber, which helps to keep you feeling full after eating them and as a person who is perpetually hungry, I appreciate that a grapefruit would do this for me.

There are plenty of other health benefits that come with adding grapefruits to your daily diet. So, if you are interested in adding more grapefruit into your life (and it sounds like we all should!), then I highly recommend you whip up this super simple, 3 ingredient, fabulously sweet and sour smoothie. You are going to love it!

Let’s get it started…

All you need to make this pink grapefruit smoothie are three simple ingredients: a banana, Greek yogurt and, of course, some grapefruit. Although I am using pink grapefruits today, you can use any kind of grapefruit to make this smoothie. The white ones are going to be the most sour, the pink ones are pretty well balanced between sweet and sour and the red ones are more on the sweet side, so pick the grapefruit that you would want to eat and you will love the flavor of your smoothie.

In order to get a thicker, more smoothie like texture, I peeled and sliced 1 large banana and place the slices in the freezer for an hour or so. I almost always have banana slices in my freezer. They are perfect for smoothies and bring yet another layer of flavor that ice cubes just can’t compete with.

If you want to make this smoothie now or prefer a thinner consistency, feel free to use a room temperature banana.

Last, but not least, you can use any flavor of Greek yogurt. I prefer whole milk or full fat Greek yogurt, because it has a thicker texture, but any Greek yogurt will work. Using plain Greek yogurt will let the grapefruit flavor stand out more, but if you are interested in toning it down a bit, try using vanilla or even strawberry Greek yogurt.

Once you have picked out your ingredients, combine them all in a blender and blend until your smoothie has reached your desired consistency and enjoy!

How beautiful is this smoothie? That soft pink color is so inviting and the flavor is every bit as delicious as it looks like it will be. The bananas help create to give this smoothie a little bit of body, the Greek yogurt brings great creaminess and the grapefruit brings both some of its own texture (from the whole fruit we added) and this perfectly sweet and sour flavor from the grapefruit juice.

Note: You can also add a scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder to this smoothie!

I hope you enjoy this fabulous pink grapefruit smoothie and all of the vitamins, nutrients, protein and flavors that it is filled with. Bottoms up to your health!
