Italian sodas are the new summertime must have. They are refreshing, flavorful and look gorgeous sitting on your table. Although they can be made by using flavored syrups, I love using fresh berries and herbs instead. The flavors are so much better, there is no need to add sugar and you know exactly what you are drinking. With just a few easy ingredients, you can put together your very own beautiful Italian soda.
Let’s get started…
The first step is to place some fresh raspberries in the bottom of a tall water glass. Make sure that they have been washed and are free from debris. I used 10-12 raspberries per glass.
Using a muddler or the end of a thin rolling pin, partially crush the raspberries to release their juices.
Add enough ice to fill the glass halfway…
Place 4-6 large mint leaves over the ice…
Now fill the glass with sparkling water and you have officially made your first Italian soda! The drink will remain layered if left alone or you can stir it up a bit, whichever makes you feel right.
This raspberry mint Italian soda is so fresh and brightly flavored and the longer it sits, the more intense the flavors become. I like to drink half of it and then add a bit more sparkling water. If this is not sweet enough for you, you can add a splash of grenadine to it, but the raspberries bring the perfect amount of sweetness for me.
I hope you enjoy this raspberry mint Italian soda as much as I do. This recipe is only one of so many options though, so have fun with it! Switch out the berries or even the herbs! You never know what combination you may love…
