Classic French Toast

A warmly spiced, custardy french toast recipe that is perfect for a weekend morning.

Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup of half and half
  • 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • a pinch of salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 8-10 slices of your favorite bread
  • fresh fruit (garnish)
  • confectioners sugar (garnish)
  • maple syrup (optional)

Instructions

  • Combine 3 large eggs, 3 egg yolks, 1/2 cup of half and half, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 2 teaspoons of cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg, a pinch of salt and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract in a shallow bowl and whisk until fully combined
  • Place a wide skillet or flat griddle over medium heat and grease with butter or non-stick spray
  • Soak the bread for about 30 seconds per side in the egg mixture and transfer onto the warm, greased griddle
  • Cook for about 2 minutes on the first side and once the underside is golden brown, flip the bread and cook for another 2 minutes or until both sides are golden brown and lightly caramelized
  • Transfer the french toast onto plates, top with fresh fruit and a dusting of confectioners sugar
  • Serve warm with maple syrup
