Steakhouse Burgers

If I had to make something that I felt confident everyone would love, it would be a burger and whether you are a carnivore or a vegan, you most likely have your own favorite burger place.

Todays burger is inspired by the burgers you can find at a great steakhouse. These burgers have to be fabulous. Being on the same menu as a ribeye is no easy task, but somehow they keep their position on the menu….

A great steakhouse burger must be thick and juicy with a flavorful patty that can hold its own even when topped with delicious toppings and speaking of delicious toppings, these burgers are going to be paired with a garlic herb aioli and topped with crispy onion straws. We are talking flavor on top of flavor on top of flavor. Enough flavor to be successful when surrounded by New York strips and Porterhouse steaks. It’s impressive.

Let’s get started…

Let’s start by making the burger mixture. Of course you can make burgers with ground beef and some seasoning, but today we are adding a few more ingredients to guarantee our patties are juicy and full of flavor.

In a large bowl, combine 16 ounces of ground beef with 1/2 cup of grated yellow onion, 2 cloves of finely minced garlic, a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon of seasoned salt, 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper. Set this mixture aside to come to room temperature while we prepare the other ingredients.

While you can buy crispy onions at the grocery store, they are pretty easy to make at home! If you are interested in whipping up a big basket of hot, crispy onion straws to add to your burgers then check out my favorite recipe here.

The other delicious addition to these burgers is my garlic herb aioli and although it seams like mayo, it is much more flavorful and definitely worth the time. Check out my recipe for garlic herb aioli here.

Once your burger mixture is at room temperature, divide it into 4 equal portions and form each portion into patties. Generously season the patties with sea salt and black pepper.

Place a cast iron skillet over medium to medium high heat or onto a grill plate over an open flame.

Once your skillet is nice and warm, cook the burgers to your liking. If you are unsure about burger temperatures, a medium burger (with a warm pink center) should have an internal temperature of about 145 degrees and a well done burger will be around 165 degrees.

Once your burgers are about finished, add a slice of sharp cheddar and let it melt a bit before transferring the burgers onto a cutting board to rest for 5 minutes before assembling.

Place each burger onto a soft, fluffy burger bun, add a layer of garlic herb aioli and top with a big pile of those crispy onion stringsYou are going to love these burgers. The seasoning in the beef is amazing and the combination of melted sharp cheddar, those salty crispy onion strings and the rich garlic herb aioli is something that makes this burger feel quite special.

These burgers are the best. The meat is perfection and juicy even when cooked all the way through. That aioli adds another layer of moisture and flavor and the crispy onion straws add a punch of texture and salt that rounds the flavors out perfectly.

Ingredients

Burgers

  • 16 ounces of ground beef
  • 1/2 cup of yellow onion, grated
  • 2 cloves of garlic, finely minced
  • 1 tablespoon of worcestershire sauce
  • 1 egg, whisked
  • 1 teaspoon of seasoned salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper

Toppings

  • 4 slices of sharp cheddar
  • 2 cups of crispy onion straws
  • 1/2 cup of garlic herb aioli
  • lettuce and tomatoes
  • 4 burger buns

Instructions

  • Make a batch of garlic herb aioli and some crispy onion straws
  • In a large bowl, combine 16 ounces of ground beef with 1/2 cup of grated yellow onion, 2 cloves of finely minced garlic, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, a whisked egg  and 1 teaspoon of seasoned salt
  • Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape into burgers
  • Season both sides of the burgers with sea salt and black pepper
  • Allow the burgers to sit at room temperature for 20 minutes
  • Brown burgers to your preferred doneness (further instructions above)
  • Add a slice of sharp cheddar to each patty about 60 seconds before removing from the heat
  • Once the burgers are done, let them rest for 5 minutes on a cutting board before assembling
  • Place a burger patty onto the base of a burger bun, add garlic herb aioli to the top bun and top with crispy onion straws
  • Enjoy immediately
