Salmon Sushi Bowl

Did you know that you don’t have to be a nori rolling master to enjoy sushi at home? Absolutely not! If you are short on time, don’t have nori sheets on hand or are just feeling a little lazy, you can combine all of your favorite sushi ingredients in a bowl!

Recipes like this salmon sushi bowl are the best, because you can literally swap anything out for your favorite version of that ingredient. It’s super customizable and creates many layers of flavors and textures that come together in a beautiful, delicious way.

Let’s get started…

When it comes to the salmon, you have a few options. Today, I am using left over blackened salmon from lunch, but you can cook some using some of my favorite salmon recipes below or use sashimi grade fresh salmon.

Once you decide on what kind of salmon you want to use for your sushi bowl, cook about 1 1/2 cups of rice according to the manufacturers instructions. Today, I am using black japonica rice, but white rice, brown rice or even wild rice will work for your sushi bowl.

While the rice is cooking, lets talk about the other fillings…

This sushi bowl is light and healthy, so I am sticking with shredded cabbage, thinly sliced carrot and long, pretty strips of cucumber. Different flavors and textures… all pairing perfectly together. I also thinly slice some green onions and grab some black and white sesame seeds and soy sauce to finish the sushi bowl off in a fabulous way.

Ok, lets assemble this bowl…

Start by fluffing up your rice and dividing it between two shallow bowls.

Flake your salmon and add it into the bowl.

Add your veggies…

If you want your cucumbers to be extra pretty, use a vegetable peeler to cut long, thin strips and then roll the strips into little spirals. They look like little green flowers. I love them…

Sprinkle thinly sliced green onions and some sesame seeds over the bowl and drizzle the rice and salmon with some soy sauce.

This salmon sushi bowl is amazing. It is light, but super flavorful and hits all of the notes you love about your favorite salmon sushi rolls.

Whether you make your sushi bowl exactly like mine or swap a few things out for your favorites, you are going to love the flavors and texture in this beautiful, delicious salmon sushi bowl.
