Buttermilk Herb Ranch Dressing

Ranch dressing is arguably the most loved of all dressings. In addition to using it as a salad dressing, it is used as a vegetable dip, served with wings, drizzled over pizza, added to subs, sandwiches and wraps, even used in pasta and potato salad recipes. It is popular for good reason. A great ranch dressing is creamy, rich, flavorful and tangy and this buttermilk herb ranch is exactly that!

Let’s get started…

If you have never made ranch from scratch, you are in for a real treat. Now, the ranch you get from the store is great, but totally different from this scratch made buttermilk herb ranch dressing. Unlike the bottled stuff, you get some texture from the fresh herbs, bold flavor from fresh garlic, tanginess from a combination of sour cream, greek yogurt and buttermilk and a hint of spice from a pinch of paprika and black pepper.

Begin by gathering, 1/3 cup of plain greek yogurt, 1/3 cup of sour cream, 1/3 cup of mayonnaise, 1/4-1/2 cup of buttermilk, 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice, 1  finely grated clove of garlic, 1 tablespoon of finely chopped fresh chives, 1 tablespoon of finely chopped fresh parsley, 2 teaspoons of dried dill, 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder, a pinch of salt and black pepper and an optional pinch of paprika or dry mustard.

Note: Although, I am using 1/3 cup of greek yogurt, sour cream and mayonnaise, you can absolutely omit one or even use just 1 full cup of greek yogurt. As long as you have a total of 1 cup, you are good to go!

Start by combining the greek yogurt, sour cream and mayonnaise along with 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice, 1 finely grated clove of garlic, 1 tablespoon of finely chopped fresh chives, 1 tablespoon of finely chopped fresh parsley, 2 teaspoons of dried dill, 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder and a pinch of salt and black pepper in a bowl. I also add a pinch of paprika or dry mustard, but this is optional.

Whisk some buttermilk in until your desired consistency is achieved. If I am using this dressing as a dip for wings or vegetables, I will keep it on the thick side, but if I am using it on a green salad, pasta or potato salad, I will thin it out a bit more.

Give your buttermilk herb ranch dressing a good whisk and get ready to enjoy the most flavorful, tangy ranch dressing you have ever tasted.

In addition to this dressing being truly delicious, it is totally customizable to the flavors that you love. I am a huge fan of garlic, so sometimes I will toss another clove of garlic into the mix. If you love spice, add more paprika or even some crushed red pepper. If you are not a fan of dill, chives or parsley, you can swap them out for another herb like thyme, rosemary or even cilantro. The fun thing about making your own dressing is that you have complete control of what goes into it. Its your dressing… your fabulously delicious dressing.

Enjoy!
