Chocolate ganache is one of those things that sound fancy and complicated to make, but is actually super simple.
Like 2 ingredients and less than 10 minutes simple.
Yep and once you have a bowl of glossy chocolate ganache on hand, you can use it to drizzle over cakes, as a fruit dip, cookie frosting, doughnut glaze… your options are endless.
Let’s get started…
This recipe is more about ratio than amount. To make a ganache with medium thickness, you’ll need 1/3 cup of chopped chocolate for every 1/4 cup of heavy cream. If you prefer your ganache thicker, add a little bit less heavy cream and if you want it thinner, add a little more.
Feel free to double, triple or even quadruple this recipe if you need more ganache. The recipe will work the same regardless of how much you make.
Note: You can use any kind of chocolate in ganache, but semi-sweet and dark chocolate will give you the best results.
Begin by pouring 1/4 cup of hot heavy cream over 1/3 cup of chopped chocolate. You can either heat the cream in a saucepan over medium high heat until it just begins to simmer or you can microwave it until it feels hot when you test it with a brave finger.
Let the chocolate and heavy cream sit for 5 minutes without disturbing it and then begin whisking…
At first, things will not look right. Sometimes the chocolate doesn’t feel melted enough or it feels like you added way too much heavy cream, but have faith and keep whisking…
You will notice the color of the ganache change before the texture begins to feel right, but keep whisking…
Once everything begins to feel smooth, you will notice things also become a little bit thicker and thats when our simple combination of chocolate and heavy cream officially becomes a ganache. It’s a beautiful thing.
I just love how thick, luxurious and glossy this chocolate ganache becomes. Isn’t it inviting? And the uses are virtually endless! You can drizzle it over a pound cake, you can sandwich it between cookies and dip fresh strawberries or grapes into it.
Keep this simple chocolate ganache recipe on hand… You never know when you may need it…
