Classic Cole Slaw

Everyone should have a good cole slaw recipe on hand for the summer season and this one should be yours. It is simple, quick and creates a flavor that everyone loves. This recipe can be made with a bagged cole slaw mix or by cutting your own cabbage and carrots, either way, the dressing is the star of this classic side dish.

Smooth and creamy with a slight bit of tang, this cole slaw recipe is the perfect partner for burgers, sandwiches, BBQ chicken, grilled fish, indoors, outdoors, lunch, dinner… you get the idea.

Let’s get it started…

This dressing is really easy! In a medium bowl, add 1 cup of a good mayonnaise (I prefer Duke’s 100%) and then whisk in 1/8 cup of honey, 1/8 cup of apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon of celery salt, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, 1/8 teaspoon of black pepper, 1/8 teaspoon of onion salt and 1/8 teaspoon of garlic powder.

You can definitely add this creamy dressing to a bagged cole slaw mix, but if you prefer to prepare your own vegetables, this is what I use…

I peel and julienne 3 big carrots. If you do not have a mandolin or food processor to help with the julienning process, just slice them up as thin as you can. Next, thinly slice up 1 small red cabbage. The easiest way to slice cabbage is to remove the core and cut the cabbage into 4 wedges. Set the wedges onto one of the flat sides and then begin to cut thin slices starting on the shortest end. It doesn’t matter if the slices are the same length, but it is best if they are similar width.

Repeat with 1 one medium green cabbage and then transfer all of the vegetables into a large bowl.

Toss them together…

… and add all of that delicious, creamy dressing…

Carefully mix until all of the cabbage and carrots are lightly coated in creamy goodness.

There is just something about the brightly colored crisp cabbage coated in that smooth, tangy, creamy dressing that just feels so light and summery. This recipe is flavorful and simple and brings an element of freshness to any plate it is added to.

I hope you love this classic cole slaw as much as I do!

Enjoy!
