If I tried to list everything that garlic breadsticks pair well with, it would be days… maybe weeks, before I finished compiling that list. They are like that person that gets along with everyone, a friend you can always count on… breadsticks go with everything and these garlic breadsticks are especially wonderful.
This recipe is quick and you can have fresh, scratch made garlic breadsticks ready to enjoy in less than an hour. You will need 1 packet of active dry yeast, 1/8 cup of granulated sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1 1/2 cups of warm water (100-110 degrees) and about 3 1/2 cups of all purpose flour.
Start by adding the sugar and yeast into the warm water and setting it aside for 5-10 minutes. The yeast is ready when the surface of the water is foamy.
Combine 2 cups of flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a large bowl and once the yeast is ready, add it to the flour and stir until everything is well combined.
Begin adding flour 1/2 cup at a time until a soft dough forms. The dough should be soft, but not sticky. Knead it in the bowl for a few minutes and then cover the bowl with a kitchen towel. Let the dough rest in a warm place for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes have past, transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and divide it in half.
Divide each of the halves into 8 portions, so you have 16 portions total. Roll each portion out into a tube about 8 inches long and place them onto a parchment lined baking sheet.
Once all of the breadsticks have been shaped, cover them with a greased sheet of plastic wrap and let them rise for 30 minutes. The easiest way to grease plastic wrap is to lay a sheet out on a flat surface and spray it with non-stick spray then flip it over the breadsticks.
Once the breadsticks are nice and puffy, brush them with melted butter and bake them on a middle rack at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes. Once the breadsticks are golden brown, transfer the baking sheet onto a cooling rack.
While they are still hot, brush them with the remaining melted butter and sprinkle with garlic salt, grated parmesan and dried parsley.
Serve these beautiful breadsticks warm and since there are 16 of them, you should be able to share a few with friends.
