Pineapple Ginger & Turmeric Wellness Shots

Have you jumped on the immune boosting shot bandwagon yet? Everyone is doing it! I think they are a wonderful idea, but they are a little pricey and can include more ingredients that I’d prefer, so today we are making our own…

These shots are really easy to make and you have completely control over your ingredients. Plus, making them at home is much more cost effective!

Here is a basic breakdown of the cost for todays batch:

          • Pineapple – $1.99
          • Ginger Root – $2.24
          • Turmeric Root – $5.99
          • Oranges – $1.25
          • Lemon – $.49
          • Coconut Water – $1.79

All of this cost $13.75 and I was able to get a double batch out of the ingredients. This gave me 16 two ounce shots, which makes each shot cost only $.86! Thats not bad, right??

Now let’s talk about what we are putting into these immune boosting shots…

          • Pineapples are great for digestion, boosting our immune system and reducing inflammation. They also contain bromelain, which can naturally help reduce pain, muscle soreness and swelling.
          • Ginger has utilized for its health benefits for centuries. It helps calm nausea, is heart healthy and may help lower cholesterol. It is also packed with antioxidants!
          • Turmeric contains the compound curcumin, which is a powerful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties. It has been found to boost brain health and memory function and may be beneficial in reducing pain associated with arthritis.
          • Oranges can help our bodies create collagen and contain fiber, which aids in digestion. They are good for our immune system and contain vitamin C that helps our bodies absorb iron. They are also a water rich fruit containing approximately 4 ounces of water per orange and we all need water!
          • Lemons are wonderful for maintaining bright, healthy skin and they are a great source of vitamin C, which is good for our hearts, bones, wound healing and collagen production.
          • Coconut water provides electrolyte rich hydration along with antioxidants, vitamins, potassium, magnesium and L-arginine, which helps our bodies build protein.
          • Black pepper contains piperine, which helps our bodies absorb the benefits of turmeric.
          • Cayenne pepper is good for gut health and can help our circulatory system work efficiently.

Each one of these ingredients are great for our bodies and together can help to boost our immune system, which is always a good thing!

When making wellness shots, try to choose organic ingredients. We are not peeling the oranges, lemons, ginger or turmeric, because there are benefits in the peel, so avoid using ingredients that have been sprayed with pesticides.

Once you have your ingredients, give them a good scrub and chop them up a bit.

Add everything into a blender and blend until completely broken down.

Transfer the mixture into a fine mesh strainer or cheese cloth and strain all of the liquid into a bowl.

This recipe should produce 2 cups of juice or eight 2 ounce servings.

I am definitely not a medical professional, but a little bit of research will tell you the benefits of all of these ingredients. Taking a 2 ounce “shot” in the morning on an empty stomach will get your day started in a healthy and beneficial way!

This juice is bright and tangy with a little bit of sweetness from the pineapple and oranges and a spicy kick from the ginger, turmeric and cayenne pepper. It is refreshing and delicious and I look forward to one of these zingy little shots every morning!
